Congratulations to The Gap FC’s under 18-1 and 18-2 teams which have won their respective leagues in 2017. It is a historic first for the club, with The Gap never having had two U18s teams both claim premiership honours. Both teams are a blend of 17 and 18-year-olds, many of whom had either competed in the U18s competition the year prior or were promoted from our grand final winning U16-1s in 2016.
The club would like to thank in particular the coaches Tony Skinner and Kieran Murphy, managers Glenn Ramsay and Mel Jeanie, and of course the players for all their efforts throughout the season.
Skinner noted that “It has been particularly pleasing to see these players find a level of consistency in their performance to not only help each team claim their premiership, but also push onto senior football with 16 boys turning out for reserves throughout the season and one now playing regularly in the first team.”
Both teams trained side by side all season as one squad in order to develop a common playing style and drive training intensity.
Heading into the final week of fixtures the U18-1s are 9 points clear of the chasing pack whilst the U18-2s have a bye but are 4 points clear of their nearest rival.
