The Gap FC is proud to announce the signing of Far North Queensland midfielder, Rose Calvert, for the 2021 NPLW season.

Calvert began her football career in Cairns and was first selected for Queensland state teams at 16, travelling to Brisbane to attend QAS and talent-identification camps.

Calvert then plied her trade in the US College league with California State University San Marcos. From there she had a brief stint with Accrington-Stanley FC in England before taking a break from football.

Returning to Australia, Calvert joined her junior club, Edge Hill United FC, and anchored the midfield during a dominant five-year period for the club. In 2019, Calvert was player-coach of the Edge Hill premier women’s team which won the FNQ grand final, and that same year captained the Far North Queensland women's representative side to victory in the inaugural Frank Farina Cup.

"It's been great playing in my hometown, but I'm looking forward to challenging myself in the best league Queensland has to offer," Calvert says.

“Coach Mick and his partner Jess both come with loads of accolades and professionalism so I’m very excited by this opportunity. As a senior player, I really admire what they both have to offer in terms of helping female footballers be the best they can be, both on and off the pitch."

Calvert will assist NPLW U16 Head Coach, Jess Gallo, for the 2021 season as she embarks on the C-Licence course.

"Rose brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our youthful squad, having played representative football in FNQ for a number of years,” NPLW TD and Head Coach, Mick Gallo, said.

“Her experience having coached senior teams in FNQ to championships also adds that additional experience into the squad.

“Not only does Rose represent the culture we want within our club and squad, but she is also a highly talented and technical player that suits our playing style perfectly, and her transition into the team has been seamless.

“Rose is an exciting player, and I am really looking forward to pushing her even further in her football journey.”

The Gap FC welcomes Rose to the family and wishes her all the best for the 2021 season.
