The Gap FC is proud to announce the signing and promotion of junior Gators player, Madison Lay, for the 2021 senior women’s NPLW squad.

Next year will be Lay’s fifth straight year at The Gap with the talented junior earning promotion into the top squad thanks to her development and drive to play senior football.

Lay began her football journey in 2008 with Pine Rivers Soccer Club before moving to Albany Creek Excelsior. She commenced her NPLW journey in 2016, representing Moreton Bay United in the U13 squad.

Lay made the move to the Gap FC in 2017 and was selected into the NPLW U15 squad for the following season where she remained for the 2018 and 2019 seasons. Lay continued her progression through the club into the NPLW U18 squad in 2018 where she was mentored by current U23 head coach and senior assistant, Chris Saxil.

In 2020, Lay showed her strength and technical ability with outstanding performances in the U18 NPLW competition which saw her rewarded with her first senior call up. Lay went on to make 12 senior appearances in 2020 including being in the starting 11 on occasions.

“I am over the moon to be a part of the 2021 NPLW senior women’s team at the Gap FC,” Lay says.

"I am looking forward to being part of such a young, friendly and energetic team, which I know all the squad will push me to become a better player. Along with being a part of the team, I am also excited for the opportunity to work with the younger age groups and become a role model to all the young and aspiring players at the club.”

“Another exciting young player that has progressed through the Gators NPLW system is once again so important to lock in,” Gap FC Technical Director and Senior Coach, Mick Gallo, says.

"This gives other young players at the club like Maddy the realistic opportunity that if they work hard and perform, the opportunity of senior football is there. I was lucky enough to watch Maddy play a number of times in the seniors where she held her own and proved that she is ready to continue for the challenge of senior football. Maddy dominated in the U18 competition so the natural next step is to take her out of her comfort zone to develop her football further.

“Another player with great technical ability, natural leadership, Maddy will help build and drive the right culture throughout the club. She fits perfectly into the way we will play and has all the attributes to become a key player in the 2021 season.”

The Gap FC welcomes back Madison to the family and wishes her all the best for the 2021 season.
