Club legend and leader remains a Gator for 2021

The Gap FC is excited to announce the re-signing of current senior player, Heidi Palmer, for the 2021 NPLW season.

Palmer brings both a technical game, leadership, and strength on the ball, and her ability to read the game will be at the heart of the defence for the Gators in 2021.

Palmer began her career at Toowong FC representing the club from 2008-2014 before embarking on her NPLW journey in 2015 with the Gators U13 NPLW squad. In 2016 and 2017, Palmer was selected into the QLD School Girls squads, representing the state in the National Championships.

Under the guidance of previous Head Coach Allan Waller, Palmer was instrumental in helping the Gap U15 NPLW team progress through the 2017 season undefeated. During this time, Palmer’s leadership shone through and she was appointed captain of The Gap NPLW teams from 2017-2019.

Palmer made her senior debut at The Gap in 2019 after five years coming through the ranks of the club’s youth development program. The year 2020 saw Palmer promoted into the Gators’ senior squad, going on to make 18 appearances. Palmer showed great flexibility as a footballer to fill in different defensive roles required of her.

“I am going into my seventh season at the Gap and I’m excited to further develop my football with this great new team,” Palmer says.

“I am looking forward to developing my football under Mick and Jess’ vision and guidance. As a player who entered the Gators NPLW program in U13s, I have always looked up to the open team for their hard work, determination, and passion. I hope to impress these qualities on the younger age groups and share my love for the sport and the club”.

“Heidi was a crucial player for us to lock in as soon as possible,” Gap FC Technical Director and Senior Women’s Coach, Mick Gallo, says.

“She has great technical ability and passing range that we require in our footballers. She’s also adaptable which is a virtue for coaches, as is the willingness to take herself out of her comfort zone and still put in strong performances, week in week out.

“Heidi possesses amazing leadership qualities that will help connect and drive our entire NPLW program and vision. Locking in another Gap FC player that has developed throughout the system is so important, as we look to develop senior players from within the club. Once again, another exciting player to watch as she takes her game to the next level in season 2021.”

The Gap FC welcomes back Heidi to the family and wishes her all the best for the 2021 season.
