FAQs

Teams

Can I request a specific team/coach/friend for my child’s team?

Yes, you can request team specifics when you register your child. If you forget to put your request in during the registration process, please email the relevant age coordinator (see contact details) with your request. We try to ensure all requests are considered; however, we receive a huge number of requests and cannot promise that all will be successful. Requests late in the registration process are more difficult to process than those received earlier.

When will I find out which team my child is in?

Age coordinators will not start allocating teams until registrations close in late January. There is then a huge amount of information to process before we can confirm teams. We will aim get your child’s team allocation to you prior to the end of February 2021.

Coaching

Can I coach my child’s team?

You can coach your child’s team if they play in a Miniroo Goanna/Gecko team.

When can I collect the training equipment for my team?

Coaches will be informed when their equipment is ready for the season.

I am struggling with coaching my team, who can help me?

Our Miniroos Technical Director is available to help with any coaching problems you may have. These may range from coaching ideas, specific skill improvements, or players who are not paying attention. Our TD would love to help make your coaching experience at TGFC as easy as possible! You can contact the TD at miniroostd@gapfootball.org.au.

Can our team train over school holidays?

TGFC fields and school grounds are closed over school holidays to allow the fields time to recover. It is assumed there is no Miniroo training over school holidays unless your team is informed otherwise.

When do I need to return the training equipment after the season?

An email will be sent to coaches informing them when they can return their equipment at the completion of the 2021 season. Even if you are considering coaching again in 2022, we ask that you return all of your equipment from 2021 so we can do a stocktake and order new equipment as required.

I need more training equipment, who do I contact?

Please contact your relevant age coordinator to organise collection of more training equipment (if available).

Training

What equipment does my child need to attend training?

All players are required to have football boots (no metal studs) and shin pads to attend training. Your child will not be permitted to take part in training if they do not have this equipment.

Why can’t you tell me when my child’s team will be training prior to signing up?

Despite our best planning efforts, final team numbers are not known until after the registration period has closed, which makes it difficult to confirm the training schedule prior to this date. There are over 40 teams at TGFC, each with specific training requirements. It takes a lot of organising and many drafts before we come up with the final training schedule.

When will the training schedule be available?

We will aim to send the final training schedule to you with your child’s team allocation.

When does training start?

U6–U11 Goanna/Gecko teams start training the week beginning Monday, 1st March 2021.

U8–U11 Komodo teams start training the week beginning Monday, 14th February 2021.

Games

When will the fixtures be available?

U6 & U7 fixtures are completed by a volunteer at TGFC. They will be made available once we have confirmed final team numbers.

U8 – U11 fixtures are completed by Football Brisbane. These fixtures are often not available until the week prior to the first game of the season.

Where do I find the fixtures for my U6/U7 player?

Here.

Where do I find the fixtures for my U8–U11 player?

U8 – U11 fixtures are available on SportsTG.

When do games start?

All Miniroo games are held on Saturdays. The first game of the season for all Miniroo teams will be Saturday, 10th April 2021.

When does the season finish?

The final Miniroo game for all age groups is on Saturday, 11th September 2021.

What time are games held?

U6 & U7 games are held on Saturday morning at either 8:30am or 9:30am. This is subject to change depending on field availability and number of teams in each age group.

U8 – U11 games are scheduled throughout Saturday. Home games are scheduled with younger age groups playing earlier in the day (~8:30am kickoff) and older Miniroo teams playing after midday, and possibly as late as 6pm kickoff. Away games are scheduled dependant on individual club field availability.

Uniforms

Why are the training uniforms not included in registrations this year?

In order to keep registration fees as low as possible, and to reduce the need to purchase new uniforms every season, the club decided to remove the gold training kit from registration fees.

Do I have to purchase a training uniform if it is not included in the registration fee?

No. The gold training uniform is MANDATORY; however, you do not need to purchase it new if your training uniform from previous years is still in good condition. You will be able to purchase individual parts of the uniform if you only need to replace some pieces. Uniforms and club merchandise can be purchased from the club (more info to follow).

When do I get my uniform?

U6, U7 and U8 teams have a welcome day held at the clubhouse at the start of each season. Uniforms will hopefully be available to hand out at this time.

U9, U10 and U11 teams will have their uniforms handed out at their first training session.

How do I order club merchandise?

In 2021, TGFC is providing club merchandise for families to purchase from our online shop.

General

I have a question, who can I contact?

Your first point of contact should be your team manager. If they cannot answer your question it can be escalated to the age coordinator or Miniroos coordinator. If you have a coaching question, please contact our Miniroos Technical Director. See contact details here.

I would like to make a complaint, who can I contact?

See our list of contact details here.

Why do I have to register via the club website and PlayFootball?

In 2020 the club implemented some new online software to help with keeping track of players, and to ease the burden on volunteers. You will need to register at the club level using this platform. Football Australia also requires you to register as a player through their registration hub, PlayFootball. Your registration is not complete until you have registered through both the club and PlayFootball.

What do my fees pay for?

The 2021 fee breakdown can be viewed here.

Can I volunteer at the club?

Yes! TGFC is run on volunteers and we welcome any time contribution you are willing to make, no matter how big or small. Please contact your relevant age coordinator to express your interest in volunteering with TGFC.

Can my child play up an age group?

The general answer to this question is ‘no’. This is usually only possible if your child’s current age group is full, and there are spaces in the age group above. If your child does play up an age group, you will need to sign a document giving permission for this to happen. Your child will only be able to play up an age group for that season, the following season they will be expected to play in their original age group. Playing up an age group in order to play with friends is not generally a good enough reason for us to make an exception.

Can my child play down an age group?

Playing down an age group is generally only acceptable in exceptional circumstances. Children who are small for their age, or who have a medical reason to play with a younger age group will need documentation for this to be approved. Please contact the Miniroos Coordinator (miniroos@gapfootball.org.au) if you would like your child to play down an age group.

How do I register for the 2021 season?

You can register on the club's registration site. Once you complete the club registration you will be prompted to register through PlayFootball. Your registration is not complete until you have registered in both places.

My child would like to play in a high-performance team, how do I trial?

High performance (Komodo) trials are conducted at the end of each season for the following year. The club is in the process of bettering these trials every year with feedback from previous trials taken into consideration. Trials are available to all players at TGFC through an expression of interest. Players are ranked on their performance at the trials, and on feedback regarding skill and behaviour by their coach for that year. Komodo players are expected to sign a contract regarding their behaviour and commitment for the season. Positions on Komodo teams are by offer only, and are confirmed by signing the player contract and paying the required deposit to the club. No Komodo positions are guaranteed from the previous year, all players must re-trial.
