Juniors (U13–U17)

The Gap FC, as a community development club, provides opportunities for all players to play at the best of their ability. In doing so, we offer players the opportunity to play in either high-performance competitions, competitive, or social leagues. Selection for our high-performance and competitive Teams is through a trials-only basis which are generally held in October/November each year. Please contact the club for more details.

Competitions for Juniors begin at U13 and are split between mixed (predominantly boys but open to girls) and female-only.

First Teams – High Performance

Our High-Performance boys and girls teams train 2–3 times per week depending on the squad. Our aim is to develop the players to a level that will enable our club to compete across all age groups at a high level in FQPL Academy Leagues.

This will be achieved through:

  • Encouraging very strong levels of engagement, together with a love of football and great team spirit from players.
  • Seeking to retain our current players where they and their families are a good fit for our club culture and our desired direction.
  • Promoting from within where possible.
  • Recruiting external players where a clear need to do so can be demonstrated.
  • Having a technical director and coaches who are experienced, qualified, and engaged and who embrace our coaching philosophy and club culture.
  • Having a strong pre-season program.
  • Ensuring players receive regular feedback, delivered constructively.
  • Continuing to develop and support our coaches with coaching resources and courses.
  • Providing a clear pathway for Youth players into our Senior teams.
  • Providing, in addition to team training, small group Academy training sessions to enhance individual player development (dependent on squad).
  • Ensuring that players are the right character, and that they, and their parents and guardians, align with our club culture and expectations.
  • Encouraging and supporting Metro League Competitive teams to be at the highest standard possible, to provide a pathway to first team selection, and shadow training opportunities.
  • Above all, having a clear focus on player welfare and enjoyment of the game.

In 2024 our teams will participate in the following competitions:

  • High Performance Mixed (FQPL4 – U13–U16)
  • High Performance Female (FQPL2 – U12/13, U14/15, U16/17)

Our Competitive teams will play in the higher divisions of the Football Queensland Metro competitions. These teams will train twice per week with the aim for these players to develop to the best of their ability and to have as a result a lifelong love of football, and all the benefits that come from playing in a local community-based team.

This will be achieved through:

  • Encouraging player development, together with a love of football and great team spirit from all players.
  • Seeking to retain our current players, and where positions are available welcoming new players, where they and their families are a good fit for our club and our desired direction.
  • Encouraging player development, and where appropriate and desired by the player, promotion to higher level teams.
  • Having coaches who are engaged and who embrace our coaching philosophy and club culture, supported by our technical director.
  • Continuing to develop and support our coaches.
  • Providing, in addition to team training, optional skills development sessions to enhance individual player development.
  • Ensuring that players are the right character, and that they, and their parents and guardians, align with our club culture and expectations.
  • Above all, having a clear focus on player welfare and enjoyment of the game.
