Gap FC secures technical midfielder for 2021 NPLW season

The Gap FC is excited to announce the signing of experienced midfielder, Rhiannon Allen, for the 2021 Senior NPL Women.

The central midfielder spent her junior years with Peninsula Power from 2000-2014. During that time, Allen was invited to train with the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) in 2008, which primed her for a breakout year in 2009 with selection into the U19 Australian schoolgirls' squad.

Allen’s progress was halted due to a string of injuries, forcing her to the sidelines where she instead focussed on studies and rehabilitation.

In 2019, Allen signed with Mitchelton FC, playing 12 games. The following year saw her sign with Capalaba FC, helping her side to a top 3 finish.

"I’m looking forward to seeing what our talented team can achieve,” Allen said of her 2021 season at The Gap FC.

“We’ve got a hardworking and gifted squad, plus a fantastic coach. The perfect combination for success. I love the professionalism and team culture that Mick is creating at the club."

“When we had the opportunity to sign Rhiannon, we did not hesitate as she ticks all of the boxes we want as a player,” Gap FC Technical Director and Head Coach, Mick Gallo, said.

“She brings experience and a real presence through our midfield. A technically strong footballer that suits our style of play perfectly.

“Coupled with her technical ability, her attitude and work-rate is of the highest standard and fits our culture and what we are about as a club. With a young and developing squad, her leadership qualities will help guide and develop our younger players to achieve higher in their football journey.”

The Gap FC welcomes Rhiannon to the family and wishes her all the best for the 2021 season.
