Director of Coaching: Gerry McAvoy

Gerry returns to The Gap after a four year absnce. In his previous time here Gerry was the Mens first team coach which saw him gain promotion from Premier Division 2 to Premier Division 1. In addition, Gerry was our club DOC. Looking more broadly, Gerry has been coaching for some 22 years with experience in Australia and in Europe. Gerry has an AFC B Licence, and is currently working towards his A Licence.  Gerry has played in the Irish Premier League and has worked with coaches at the Stoke City and Reading Academies in England and with the Celtic Academy in Scotland.

Gerry’s passion lies in developing young players to be the very best that they can be and he does this both within club football and through his interstate academies.  He will deliver a comprehensive junior football development program in accordance with the FFA National curriculum.

Junior Development Officers

Junior Development Officer (Under 12′s to Under 18′s): Jason Powell

Jason is still relatively new to The Gap joining us in 2012 to take on the JLP under 14 girls and the under 15 Division 1 boys. In 2013 Jason’s role will be Junior Development officer of the under 12’s to under 18’s working under the direction of the High Performance Manager – Mark Boyd. In addition, Jason will also assume the role of head coach for an Australian Premier League girls’ team. Jason’s coaching experience dates back to 1988 and includes coaching senior and junior teams across Queensland, including representative coaching roles as Central Queensland Zone Manager and Central Queensland Assistant coach at the under 16’s level. Jason holds an FFA ‘C’ Licence and is currently undergoing the FFA ‘B’ Licence course.

Junior Development Officer (Under 9′s to Under 11′s): Fatima Flores

Fatima is a current player for our Women’s Sapphires and Diamond teams. In 2013 Fatima’s role will be Junior Development officer of the under 9’s to under 11’s working under the direction of the High Performance Manager – Mark Boyd. Fatima’s playing history included senior football at Mount Gravatt and Easts. Her representative honours as a player include Met Easts, Queensland school girls and various Football Queensland teams. As a coach, Fatima has trained several junior girls’ teams as Mt Gravatt and The Gap Pastime Club, junior and senior girls at All Hallows College, Assistant Coach of Coach Cavendish Road SHS Bill Turner Team 2010 and Marsden State High School in 2010. Fatima currently holds an FFA Youth Coaching License and is in the process of completing her FFA Senior Coaching License by early 2013.

Junior Development Officer (Under 6′s to Under 8′s): Chris May

Chris is still relatively new to The Gap Pastime Club having joining us in 2011 after his son switch to us from our partners Brisbane City.  In 2013 Chris’s role will be Junior Development officer of the under 6’s to under 8’s working under the direction of the High Performance Manager – Mark Boyd. Chris’s interest in coaching was born out of need when his son’s under 11 team needed a coach. Developing a liking to junior development he has since had 2 more season’s experience coaching. This culminated into a grand final win with our under 12 div 3 in 2012. Additionally, Chris is in the middle of his second season summer season of coaching futsal. Chris has completed several coaching badges including the FFA Grassroots and Futsal Certificates, FFA Junior Licence, Youth and Senior Licences.
