It is with a heavy heart that I advise that Ron Clarke passed away Friday morning after a lengthy illness. Ron is past- president Bob Clarke’s father and a Gap FC stalwart for 30+ years. Everyone who has visited our club would have had a chat with Ron and discussed football amongst many things. A fine man and Gap FC icon. His son and Mr Football at the Gap, Bobby Clarke, nursed Ron whilst still giving his all to his beloved club.

The club wishes to extend there deepest condolences to the Clarke family and would like to advise all current and ex Gap Gators, please take the time to spare a minute for Ron Clarke. Fundraisers to assist his family with the cost of the funeral will be arrange shortly. Please get involved. Donations will be accepted at the club all weekend for funeral costs.

Finally, I have allowed comments to be left, so if anyone would like to leave a message of condolence we can pass it onto Bob.

Rest in peace Ron.

Here is a few suggestions as to how you can help out, and get your $50.00 volunteer levy back.

Now that the season is well underway, and the teams all have coaches and managers, you may be wondering how you can help out around the Club and in return receive that levy back. Here’s a few ideas:

Work in the Canteen – always needs an extra pair of hands – on Saturday and Sunday.

Join a Committee – so many to choose from – The Gap Pastime Club Committee, the Junior, Senior Men’s, Grounds or Women’s.

Fundraising , help gain sponsorship for the Club, or grant applications.

Do some grounds work – Lee Gannon will gladly give you a job to do – mark lines, weeding, cleaning up (did you know that the Club does not have a paid groundsmen, all the work is done by a few amazing, tireless volunteers).

Equipment officer – the Club needs someone to sort and manage all the equipment.

Non of these appeal? Why not talk to your section committee and see if there is something else that needs doing.

Anyone who has done the required 5 hours work (or more) and is wondering how to get your levy back should email the Club Treasurer Glenys Wilkinson with their bank account details. Her email address is gjwilko@optusnet.com.au.

On the books in season one, Griffin was not unleashed until season two when the then 21-year-old defender made his debut against the Central Coast Mariners in round three at Bluetongue Stadium. The ground would also fittingly mark his smashing debut goal in round 17, when the Roar returned to Gosford that December. While he made his debut under ex-coach Miron Bleiberg, the arrival of Frank Farina saw Griffin consistently included in the starting eleven and his striving and subsequent improvement did not go unnoticed by both supporters and critics. Brisbane-born and a product of the Queensland Academy of Sport, Griffin has represented Australia at Under 17, Under 20 and most recently Under 23 level. Impressive, reliable and instinctive when pushing forward.

Since his time at the roar Ben has moved onto firstly Gold Coast United and is now contracted to the Brisbane Strikers.
