After a three-day training camp in Brisbane over the weekend, The Gap’s Ryan Roderick is off to Japan next week to play for the Queensland primary schoolboys side.
The tournament will give Ryan the chance to test his skills against international sides from across Asia. The trip also includes the chance to see some of Japan’s top football stadiums.
Ryan made the side after his efforts for The Gap primary school’s side of the past couple of seasons. Ironically, he found out he’d been selected in the side on the same day he suffered a broken wrist at school – you guessed it, playing football.
The trip won’t be Ryan’s first taste of rep football. He was a part of the Brisbane West U11 rep side last season and has been playing for Brisbane North in the Junior Premier League during this season, as well as for the club.
It won’t be his last rep footy either. Once he arrives back in Australia, Ryan will have three days to shake off his jet lag before he sets off to the equally exotic Bundaberg (okay, I admit that’s a bit of an exaggeration) to play for the Brisbane North schoolboys side in the state championships.
He won’t struggle for company on that trip. Joining him will be four of his team-mates from the club side – Will Rumble, Conor O’Neill, Stephen O’Neill and Scott Halliday.
The club wishes Ryan all the best for both trips, and would also like to pass on its congratulations to Will, Conor, Stephen and Scott.
Well done boys.
